Hair loss and thinning
Hair loss (alopecia) is a fairly common occurrence. While it’s more prevalent in older adults, anyone can experience it, including children.
It is typical to lose between 50 and 100 hairs a day. With about 100,000 hairs on your head, that small loss isn’t noticeable. New hair normally replaces the lost hair, but this doesn’t always happen.
Hair loss can develop gradually over years or happen abruptly. Depending on the underlying cause, it may be temporary or permanent.
If you are concerned it may be time to see a Trichologist.
There are many common types of scalp conditions that can cause some very irritating symptoms. Scalp conditions do not usually cause any major complications, and most are not contagious.
Conditions that the scalp is susceptible to include:
Mycotic (fungal) conditions, such as dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and ringworm. Parasitic infections, such as head lice and Inflammatory conditions, such as psoriasis and eczema.
Many types of scalp conditions share similar symptoms such as itching, inflammation, skin flaking, and more. To receive proper treatment, it’s vital to consult with an experienced healthcare provider such as a Trichologist for a thorough examination and proper diagnosis.
Hair breakage has many different causes. Healthy hair depends on an inner cuticle with overlapping scales that keep your strands together. When these scales fall apart, your hair can get dry and eventually separate, leading to damage. This causes breakage, along with other symptoms, such as frizz and dryness.
See your trichologist to find out more about some of the most common causes of hair breakage and what you can do about them.
Fagron TrichoTest™ is a genetic test for hair loss that analyses gene variations and lifestyle factors so that personalised hair loss treatments can be accurately recommended.
Studies show there is a relationship between your genetic profile and how your hair loss responds to
different types of treatment.
This means not all hair loss treatments work for everybody and the success of any given treatment is dependent on your genetic profile and lifestyle factors.
Thanks to the unique analysis performed by Fagron TrichoTest™ we can identify which hair loss treatments are most likely to provide the best results for you.
Trichology is a branch of dermatology that deals with the scientific study of the structures, functions and diseases of the hair and scalp.
Your trichologist is a hair and scalp specialist, who can diagnose the cause of: hair loss, hair breakage, hair thinning, and conditions of the scalp.
Your trichologist will, after an in-depth consultation, formulate a treatment plan best suited to your specific concern.
Your trichologist will take their time to get to know you. This will help to build a complete picture of your hair, scalp and other lifestyle factors that may be contributing to the concern.
Your trichologist will discuss your diagnosis and your individual recommended treatment plan.
Once your condition is fully diagnosed, we will offer our specialist advice regarding how we can improve your concerns and how frequently you should visit our clinic. In cases where we feel you would be best served by seeking the assistance of another medical or healthcare professional, we will always advise you accordingly.
